Batman Lego Bricks

Until recently, the LEGO Group shied away from creating LEGO systems based on licensed themes (i.e., Star Wars.) Rather, the LEGO Group focused on building LEGO themes from scratch and marketing that to its fan base. To keep up with the competition however, LEGO decided to start working with other companies and have created huge growth and sales because of this. Because of the success the LEGO Group enjoyed from this, they have continued to license themes from other companies and have since created LEGO systems around Batman, Spiderman and Star Wars. This is a great situation for both parties as it tends to expand the fan base for both companies.

In 2006, the LEGO Group began selling LEGO sets based on the iconic comic figure, Batman. Batman has enjoyed a recent surge in attention with the success of the Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Since there were already sets released around the Batman theme prior to the movie many LEGO fans and Batman fans naturally gravited towards collecting the Batman LEGO sets that were already out there. That, along with the fact that LEGO tends to stop releasing any particular LEGO set after a certain amount of time, has created a shortage of some of these Batman LEGO sets. This shortage makes some Batman LEGO systems very expensive to find.

One of the more rare Batman LEGO Sets is the Arkham Asylum set. This set is particularly significant because it has seven Batman LEGO Mini figures. A few of these figures (such as Poison Ivy) are exclusive to this LEGO set so for the avid Batman LEGO collector it is a must. The problem with that is that since it’s so rare, the price for this LEGO set is through the roof! Some eBay auctions for this Batman set can go for as much as $300 USD! For many collectors, this rules out collecting every single Batman LEGO Set and every Batman mini figure.

With the cost of some of the more rare Batman LEGO Sets, some collectors stick with simply trying to get their hands on all of the Batman LEGO minifigures. This can be much easier to do with the use of auction sites, such as eBay.

Many times you will find that eBay sellers are not good at spotting LEGO minifigs that are rare or expensive. You can also ask for more pictures from the seller if the pics taken do not show any close ups of the lot of LEGOs for sale.

Being a collector of Batman LEGOs is a great pastime. Many LEGO collectors have a favorite theme they usually focus their collecting on and one of my favorites is the Batman LEGO theme because of how fun Batman is.

Peter is a big fan of Batman LEGO Sets and enjoys, in particular, Batman LEGO Mini Figures.
