Everyone has been there, you are getting ready to move and you realize that you need boxes. You need lots of boxes for moving. So, you start scrounging boxes wherever you can find them, you ask at the big box stores, you ask friends, you take what you find behind the stores. When you get your boxes home you start to assemble them and find a collection of mismatched, flimsy and sometimes dirty boxes. This is not what you want to use to pack your household goods. Purchasing new boxes is relatively inexpensive, you can get them delivered right to your door to avoid the hassle of searching for them or hitting up your friends, and you can be assured that the boxes are new and clean.
One of the benefits of purchasing new boxes for moving that they will be a regular an uniform size. Even if you get multiple sizes for different types of household goods, the consistency will make loading your household goods very easy. Before you buy boxes you should evaluate what kinds of household goods you own. If you own lots of books, buy many smaller sized boxes. Packing a large box with books will either result in your back going out, or your books crashing through the bottom of a box. Clothes can be packed in medium sized boxes, and to make unpacking easier, pack shirts and pants separately and pack separate boxes for winter and summer clothes. For packing those hanging clothes consider using wardrobe boxes. When using wardrobe boxes you can leave your clothes right on their hangers, avoiding the extra steps of removing the clothes from hangers, folding them and packing them, then rehanging them when you have reached your new home. For kitchen items buy medium or large boxes and do take the time to wrap glass items so that they do not break. The extra wrapping will take up quite a bit of space in the box, so even boxes with heavy dishes should be manageable.
Remember when buying boxes for moving to over-estimate how many you will need. How many of us have been in this situation: it is the middle of the night the day before your scheduled move, you suddenly realize that you are out of boxes! Do not let this happen to you. Estimate how many boxes you will need, then add a few extra boxes to make sure you have enough. Even if you do not use them all, they are always recyclable, or you can pass them on to a friend who was not as smart as you, and ran out of boxes in the middle of the night.
