How to Get a Property Title?

We paid off the mortgage on our house recently. We received a certificate from the mortgage company indicates that the loan has been paid in full. We also got a copy of the Deed from the County Record Office. However, we don't have a Property Title (like a car title) to prove that we are the owners of the house. Do we need a Property Title and if we do, where to get it? Is the Deed and the Property Title the same?

Suggestion:

Congratulations! good to see happy news on mortgages. How rare is that these days.

You always had title on your home. the bank had a lien attached to it. Now that the loan has been paid off the bank will re-convey the lien and your home will be free and clear. Nothing for you to do.

You may consider putting it into a trust however to add security and to assign a beneficiary in case something happens to you.

The first answer you got was a good answer, but I don't think it acually answered your question.

What I believe you were acually talking about it the piece of paper that you're calling the Title.

In Real Property there is no such paper, what you are thinking of is the Deed. For Real Property it is the Deed that says you own it, there is no title… In car's and other things it is called a Title.

In reality, it's pretty much the same thing, just called by different names.

Good job on the Loan!
