Looking After Doors in High Public Buildings

With budgets under pressure more companies are realizing the benefits of extending the life of doors and frames using door protection systems. When fitted to older doors they are given a complete new look, whilst new doors will stay in pristine condition for much longer.

Fair ware and tear is a constant problem to doors and door fittings in busy areas such as public buildings and corridors. Panels can be cut and shaped in many different ways to meet individual requirements and offer greater design capabilities.

Door Protection Panels & Plates

Door Protection Panels are rectangular shapes of thin metal or plastic used to protect the most vulnerable part of the door surfaces. The areas that are most susceptible to wear include the bottom of the door and the area alongside the door handle and panels tend to be attached to these areas. Custom made panels can be custom produced to match the varying sizes and shapes of the doors throughout your building.

Door Edge Protectors

Existing damaged doors can be given a new lease of life with door edge protectors. All thicknesses of doors can be accommodated so this type of protection is ideal for both old and new doors. Door Edge Protectors may be formed to suit radius or square edge doors and double swing corridor doors.

One hour and half hour fire ratings can be achieved with the addition of smoke/fire seals to fire doors.

Door Frame & Architrave Protectors

As door frames loose their shape over time, Door Frame & Architrave Protectors generally need to be made to measure. Impact resistance capabilities are provided by using PVCu and this provides the added benefit of reducing sharp edges.
Note: Off cuts from sheets of material are a by-product of the manufacturing process and can sometimes be used to produce kick and push plates at a discounted price.

Accessibility

D-Plates help partially sighted people. These brightly coloured panels help eliminate the need for new door handles as they help draw attention to that area of the door.

Colours and Finishes

A full colour palette will be available from most manufacturers along with small samples of the actual material. The effects of abrasion can be concealed by using heavily textured surfaces such as Hessian. A smooth, safe corner can be achieved by chamfering the edges of the material.

Installation

The standard method of fixing plates, D plates and Door Edge Protectors is double sided adhesive tape and can be fitted by anybody with basic DIY skills. More advanced skills are needed for Door Frame & Architrave systems.
