Suggestion:
You've already answered your question: "…it hasn't happened in real life before." And there is an extremely limited possibiity that it will ever happen in real life. It is good entertainment in a cartoon, but not in real life.
For one thing, the umpires are responsible for ensuring that 'Mississippi Mud' is applied to each game ball before the game begins. Consequently, every ball is handled and checked before it is placed in play for the MLB game. Also, there is no batter strong enough to hit the cover off of an Oficial Major League Baseball.
You have a great imagination but it doesn't relate to real pro baseball life.

depends how bad the ball is destroyed… but the center of the ball wich is basicaly the string cannot be broken with bat hits so they will usualy keep on playing with the string ball until the game is stopped then they will change the ball
if the ball is ripped to shreds then the game is stopped and the play is replayed
Have you ever seen the movie "The Natural?" Because a hitter did that in that game. It was a home run.
But it isn't possible in real life unless someone tampers with the ball first. So they'd probably eject the pitcher for doctoring the baseball.
